Felix Ayala began his career in emergency medical services (EMS) more than 10 years ago as a way to support his college education. However, what began as a means to an end quickly transformed into passion. Captivated by the challenges and rewards of EMS, Felix decided to pursue a career with purpose. Throughout his career, Felix has held various positions, each contributing to his professional development and experience. He has worked as an EMT, paramedic, operations supervisor, field training officer (FTO), continuing education instructor, and now serving as a flight paramedic and registered nurse. Even in his current role, his dedication to ground EMS remains as he continues to serve as a part-time paramedic for AMR. Felix attributes his success in EMS to the foundational skill of assessment. His understanding of patient assessment and disease processes has been paramount, enabling him to make split-second decisions and administer lifesaving interventions effectively. For anyone interested in pursuing a career in EMS, Felix’s advice is to just go for it. The rewards are not only professional but also personal, as you get to make a positive difference in people's lives every day. Felix's journey in EMS reminds us that with passion and commitment, anything is possible. Thank you, Felix, for your hard work and dedication to the communities we serve. #EMSforLife #NationalNursesWeek

Hai Dinh considers Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month an opportunity to showcase the growing presence of Asian Americans in EMS, and the vital role they play in bridging cultural gaps. Hai’s ability to speak Vietnamese during emergencies brings an immediate sense of relief and understanding to patients who might otherwise feel overwhelmed and isolated. This connection not only comforts patients but also demonstrates the importance of cultural competence in providing effective emergency care. Hai is a strong advocate for educating healthcare professionals on eastern medicinal practices, and believes by recognizing these practices, we can offer care that respects patients' cultural backgrounds while educating them about the benefits of modern, research-based medical practices. Hai’s advice for anyone considering a career in EMS is to start as soon as possible, as it offers unique opportunities to make a real difference. Thank you, Hai, for your dedication in strengthening the understanding and respect for cultural diversity in the communities we serve. #AAPIHeritageMonth
