Peace at Home Family Shelter

Non-profit Organizations

Peace at Home provides services and support to survivors of domestic violence and their children in Northwest Arkansas.

About us

The mission of Peace at Home Family Shelter is to empower victims of domestic violence to survive and thrive by nurturing their self-determination and courage; to promote healthy relationships and compassionate communities through education, outreach, and advocacy. Peace at Home is a private, 501(c)3, nonprofit organization based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Founded in 1977 by a group of community members, Peace at Home was the very first domestic violence shelter in the state of Arkansas. The goal of the organization is to help every individual safely and successfully leave a domestic violence situation. We strive to meet this goal by providing the following programs to women, men, children, and individuals: a 24-hour crisis hotline, an emergency shelter with capacity for 14 families, transitional housing assistance, outreach assistance, legal services, and counseling support. All services are confidential and free of charge. Each year, Peace at Home supports over 1,000 individuals each year as they seek safety and independence.

  • Today we’re celebrating our amazing team of counselors, including the MSW students who joined Peace at Home’s intern cohort this year! In 2023, the counseling team helped over 70 adults and kids in NWA recover from domestic violence. We’re so grateful for the work they’re doing to help survivors in our community find hope and healing. #StaffAppreciation #Counseling #Shelter #SupportSurvivors #DomesticViolence #Internship #PeaceAtHomeShelter

  • 🌟 Ever noticed unexplained absences or increased personal disruptions at work? It could be more than just a coincidence. 🚨 These signs could indicate that a colleague is experiencing domestic violence or stalking, which affects not just their personal life but also their productivity and well-being in the workplace. 💼 As employers and managers, it's crucial to recognize these red flags and take proactive steps to support survivors. By connecting survivors to resources like Peace at Home, implementing policies to protect survivors, and fostering a culture of understanding and empathy, we can create a safer environment for everyone. Let's stand together to break the cycle of domestic violence and ensure that no one suffers in silence.

    • Stalking survivors average 5+ days of lost work a year.
  • We 💜 our AmeriCorps VISTA members! Their service with Peace at Home increases our capacity to support survivors and make a real difference. Our Development Coordinator, Bethany, has this to say about her AmeriCorps experience. ➡️ "I have always had a passion for human rights advocacy. Joining AmeriCorps provided me with the opportunity to delve into my field of interest while broadening my skill set, initially as a Marketing Coordinator, and now as a Development Coordinator. At Peace at Home, I've had the privilege of connecting with remarkable individuals whom I proudly consider friends. This journey has fueled my ambition to pursue a Master's degree in Social Work and engage in community-driven initiatives for change." Thank you, Bethany, for your service! ✨

  • 🔴 Do you know the signs that a coworker is experiencing abuse? Being aware can make a world of difference for survivors - work is often the only place where a survivor is unobserved by their abuser. 🚩 Keep an eye out for things like inconsistent attendance, strange upticks in personal disruptions, or a coworker isolating themselves. These could be hints that your coworker isn't safe at home. 💬 If you notice any of these signs in a coworker, don't hesitate to start a conversation with them. Stay tuned for more tips on how to talk about domestic violence in your workplace and where to find support resources. Together, we can create a workplace where everyone is safe and supported. #WorkplaceWellness #SupportSurvivors #EndDomesticViolence
